NEW LOW-COST CARRIERS INTERESTED IN BULGARIA

Six new low-cost air carriers have expressed interest in flights to Bulgaria. Among them are the UK's Easy Jet, Italy's May Air, Germany's Air Berlin and Slovakia's Sky Europe. Representatives of Sofia Airport have made an offer to the six companies during an aviation exhibition in Copenhagen.

Starting December, Sky Europe will fly to Sofia in competition to Wizz Air, which already does regular flights to Bulgaria. From next year, May Air plans to fly from Bulgaria to Venice and Bologna. Easy Jet will not fly directly to Bulgaria yet, but the company plans to use Sofia Airport as a base in the region, from which to fly to Athens and Bucharest. An additional company, China's private Hainan Airlines, has also expressed interest in flying to Bulgaria.

The company will need two years to analyse the Bulgarian market before considering a deal. Sofia Airport plans to use its old terminal for low-cost and charter flights. The new terminal will be used for regular flights. The prices for using the new terminal will respectively be higher, Dnevnik daily reported.
